A Search for Amelia Earhart in Modern Saipan
This book was the result of Dave’s recent (February 2015) trip to Saipan. It relies heavily on his photography, but also contains thoughtful commentary text.
During his stay, Dave visited many little known Japanese ruins thanks to his guide, Jungle Jim. They included sites in remote, jungled areas that were hard to reach due to narrow, extremely rough roads. (The novice is cautioned not to try to visit remote sites without a professional guide.) In his book, Dave dubbed these sites “Secret Saipan”.
SAIPAN is filled with beautiful color photography, offering the reader a pleasant tour of a peaceful, historic island which was once the scene of some of the most ferocious fighting of WWII in the Pacific. It is a miracle that Saipan’s sweet unaffected people survived the 1944 invasion. SAIPAN also offers the best visual tour to date of Old Garapan Jail with a few new bits of information about Amelia Earhart.
Although available through this site, SAIPAN will be officially launched in July in Atchison, Kansas at the 2015 Amelia Earhart Festival.
